• HISTORY ASPECTS:
• The M65 Atomic Annie, officially known as the Heavy Motorized 280mm Gun, was a monumental piece of artillery with a unique and chilling history. It was designed during the height of the Cold War to deliver tactical nuclear firepower and played a significant role in the evolving dynamics of that era.
• One of the most iconic moments in the M65's history was its participation in Operation Upshot-Knothole in 1953. During this series of nuclear tests in Nevada, Atomic Annie fired a live nuclear shell, detonating it successfully. This marked the first and only time that a nuclear artillery shell was fired and detonated on U.S. soil. It demonstrated the gun's capability as a rapid-response nuclear weapon delivery system.
• The M65 Atomic Annie also played a significant role in deterring potential adversaries during the Cold War. Its imposing presence and the knowledge that it could quickly deliver nuclear payloads contributed to the delicate balance of power that defined that era.
• Now, you can own a meticulously crafted 1:72 scale model, a piece of history that symbolizes the tense and formidable period of the Cold War. Display it to pay tribute to the men and women who served during those uncertain times and to commemorate the enduring legacy of this remarkable weapon system.
